Project “Unshaken by the wind”

Statues are not only visual representation of human figures, but also metaphors for their ideas. These historical objects are placed as barometers of past, present and future. If statues are objects that represent the dead figure forever, statues from my work are objects that live forever with what is still alive. All the figures of statues overcome and transcend time.

Inspired by Daguerre’s Boulevard du Temple. It was fascinating to see the emptiness of the city as well as the trace and presence of human figures. Long exposure is an important concept for me, because everything disappears. “Everything disappears” doesn’t just mean physical disappearance, but also references the relatively brief existence of human beings. Although, humans disappear physically, their ideas and traces remain.

Human beings are not eternal beings. Eternal life has always been their dream. Because humans can't exist forever. Even though these people die physically, their fame and ideology and ideas are still alive in these statues.

The reason why I chose New York City for my setting is, it is where all races meet together. There are millions of people from different nations facing each other in this small space. It is a great place where I can represent all human nations for my work. These photographs of statues show places where historic and contemporary figures come together and exist simultaneously.
